“Newsweek” magazine ranks Tunisia best country in Africa
U.S. magazine “Newsweek” has ranked Tunisia the best country in Africa in its ranking of “100 best countries in the world,” based on objective and verified socio-economic and political data.
Tunisia earned this advanced ranking at the continental level by scoring 58.9 points out of 100 points in areas including education, health, quality of life and economic dynamism.
This ranking is significant all the more so that it places Tunisia at the same level, in figures and indicators, as most developed countries, particularly industrialised and emerging countries.
Tunisia ranked 42nd in matters of health, quality, and cost of care with 75.85 points. This advanced ranking in the health field shows the considerable position given to the health sector by Tunisia which considers human being as the ultimate goal and finality of the development effort.
In the same report, Tunisia was ranked 58th in economic growth and dynamism and came 60th as best destination for quality of life. “Newsweek” underlines that this report, which was published on Monday, is considered as the most comprehensive survey ever conducted by the magazine in this area. The magazine relied on updated and accurate socio-economic and political data, figures and indicators.
It also relied on criteria deemed vital by authors of this report such as “quality of life” which involves wealth, and days of rest, “economic dynamism” which takes into account both economic growth and the number of persons living below the poverty line as well as “education” and ” health” which combines access to care, their quality and their cost.
Finland ranked first in this report, followed successively by Switzerland, Sweden and Luxembourg.
It should be reminded that the Global Competitiveness Report of the Davos World Economic Forum (2009-2010) had ranked Tunisia on the top in Africa and 40th in the world out of 133 countries included in that ranking.
Tunisia was also placed on the top of Arab countries that enjoy a good standard of living according to the annual ranking of Irish organisation “International Living” which monitors quality of life in the world.
