Open forum
Within the IGF Forum that was held on 14 – 18 Nov. 2009 in Sharm El Sheikh – Egypt, The Arab ICT Organization (AICTO) organized a panel entitled: “AICTO facing the challenges of Internet developments in the Arab Region”.
During this event, panelists and audience discussed about the latest developments in Internet as Internet is increasingly seen as a powerful and a unique chance to achieve an important social and economic development through shortcuts.
Local barriers have disappeared engendering new frameworks and concepts dictated by the virtual environment: e-content, e-certification, technological convergence,..
The questions addressed include:
- What is the degree of preparedness of the Arab region to face such challenges ?
- Can we dissociate the growth of the Internet from the local e-content ?
- What are the chances of enjoying a safer cyber-space ?
- Three billion people are currently using the Net throughout the globe, will this help developing m-commerce and m-content in the Arab region?
- What is the role to be played by the different stakeholders?
