Tunisia – TACC: Lunch debate about ‘Made in Tunisia ICT’
The Tunisian American Chamber of Commerce (TACC) organizes on Wednesday November 24th at 12:30, a lunch debate about the theme: « How to integrate ‘Made in Tunisia ICT’ in global value chains. »
This lunch debate will be chaired by His Excellency Mr Mohamed Naceur Ammar Minister of Communication Technologies.
Position Note
Knowing that Tunisia is committed to integrating into the global economy, especially through the establishment of an Information Society, we would then begin to wonder, what exactly is the national strategy for investing in these global value chains? Does the Tunisian ICT have the capacity to fit into this strategy? Should Tunisia just relinquish its efforts to the technology giants? Or what role could off-shore companies play with Tunisia?
But, before investing in global value chains, Tunisia should first master its natural resources based supply chains such as olive oil and dates. We notice that the information system of the related value chains is insufficient (the lack of a traceability system for example) and even less for the ICT services in the Tunisian Pavilion. Again, this leads us to wonder, “What is the strategy for developing a ‘made in Tunisia’ ICT offer? And how do we setup local champions in this arena before being able to compete at an international level?”
Referring to Tunisia’s assets, the reorganization of the Global Value Chains seems to be a unique opportunity to compete in certain fields, capitalizing on its intangible assets which are already available and waiting. How do we then formulate and implement a national strategy, gathering all the country’s resources, to achieve this goal?
