World Bank Institute and Global Development Learning Network Host Two Conference Sessions
This year’s eLearning Africa conference will host the first-ever “Mobile GDLN Zambian Distance Learning Center”, brought to us by the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN), a partnership specialising in knowledge and learning for people working in international development with strong ties to the World Bank Institute (WBI). The virtual centre is a new concept from the Washington-based GDLN Global Secretariat and the Association of African Distance Learning Centres (AADLCs).
Voices and Ideas from Brussels and Lusaka: ICT in Education and Governance
At eLA on May 27th, a live video-conference session on The Use of ICT in Education and Governance – The Voice of the Youth will link the conference to the Global Anti-Corruption Youth Forum in Brussels, Belgium. The youth forum will bring musicians and journalists from around the world together with fifty youth leaders from civil-society organisations for an exchange of ideas about fighting corruption.
During the three-hour videoconference, eLA participants in Lusaka will convene virtually with people in Brussels and other GDLN sites around the world and discuss the use of ICTs in education, governance and the fight against corruption. The eLA session will hear new ideas from one of the three winners in a recent competition at the Innovation Fair in Cape Town, South Africa. The gathering in cyberspace is expected to strengthen the recently established Youth Anti-corruption Network. “The Use of ICT in Education and Governance – The Voice of the Youth“ presented by the “Mobile GDLN Zambia Distance Learning Centre” will take place on Thursday, May 27th from 14:00 – 17:00.
ICT Skills for the African Economy
On May 28th, a panel discussion on “Skills for ICT – A South-South Experience Exchange between Africa and India” will focus on the “New Economy Skills for Africa Program for Information and Communication Technologies” (NESAP ICT). NESAP ICT is a programme launched by the World Bank in 2008 to support countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) by building skills for a knowledge economy. The effort develops skills to support ICT, integrating technology into teacher training and vocational training and the use of ICT for improving the governance and management of the education system.
This session will provide a broad view of Africa’s rise in the ICT-services market and reveal the opportunities available to Africans, unveiling new research on the emerging ICT services industry in Africa and highlighting progress in participating countries. People at the conference in Lusaka will interact with colleagues by video link to other places in Africa and India. More details about NESAP ICT, can be found in this video.
The session Skills for ICT – A South-South Experience Exchange Between Africa and India will take place on Friday, May 28th from 9:00 – 12:00.
