According to elearners.com, Capella University in the USA announced two new doctorate degrees and one new masters degree. The Doctor of Social Work (DSW), Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), and Masters degree in Career Counseling (MS). The unveiling of these new programs happened on February 11, 2010.
The Doctor of Social Work is just a supplemental program for those who are existing social workers or those looking to seek academic positions within a university-setting. It is not yet accredited by the CSWE, Council on Social Work Education, which accredits many graduate-level programs to be practitioners and allows graduate students to seek licensure. So those who are brand new to the program who desire to work in the field as a social worker, this may not be the program for you. Those who are looking to broaden their existing social work or human service skill set, then tackling this program will be beneficial.
Doctor of Business Administration is a new advanced graduate program, geared towards the business-minded professional. Concentrations under this umbrella of study include, Business Intelligence, Global Operations & Supply Chain Management, and Strategy & Innovation. This program also gives you the option of an international trip to help you with “multinational experience and networking”.
With these two doctorate programs, there are residencies or colloquias that are required.
The Masters of Career Counseling is the new program, for those interested in becoming independent career counselors, those who are existing career counseling professionals, or HR personnel that are deepening their study or passion for the career management perspective.
