Finnish scholarships for post-graduates and researchers
The Centre for International Mobility, in Finland, awards grants known as CIMO Scholarships to foreign post-graduate students and young researchers to carry out their studies and examinations and to teach in Finnish universities.
Every year, about 700 persons come to the welfare state Finland under the various scholarship programmes. The objective of this policy consists in increasing mobility to the country, supporting internationalization of research as well as teaching and fostering links between Finnish and foreign universities. To reinforce the aim of encouraging mobility between institutions of higher education in Finland and aside; CIMO awards are offered to international learners who had already obtained their master degree, researchers with doctoral level studies and also to teachers and administrational staff of universities.
The CIMO Fellowships programme is open to young researchers after master level from all countries and from all academic fields. However, the donation differs depending on the nature of each one. For instance, is some cases, they are afforded to applicants from all countries. However, in other cases, they are awarded just to applicants from certain countries.
Likewise, its period may vary from 3 to 12 months for a monthly allowance from 800 to 1200 Euros. Actually, it is intended to cover living expenses in Finland for a single person. That is to say, no additional allotment for international travel to and from Finland, housing, or insurance is paid. Hence, this project finances the beneficiaries in term of their educational and research needs. In reality, CIMO scholarship programme supports them by means to fulfill its academic goals.
Concerning application; a prospective student can not apply for a CIMO Fellowship independently. It is the Finnish host department, wishing to receive a student, which assigns for the grant from the CIMO. For that reason, the visiting potential candidates must establish contacts with the Finnish host university since the beginning, it means before applying for this program. Therefore, it is only upon a successful appeal by the keeper high education body, that a personal scholarship is awarded to the foreign post-graduate student or young researcher.
The advantageous aspect in its application system is that there are no annual deadlines, so applications may be considered at all times. Nevertheless, they should be submitted at least 3 months before the intended scholarship period. As for decisions, they would be made within approximately 2 months after receipt of applications. Thereupon, every eligible person from all over the world can have access to it at any period of the year which suits him especially that the concerned persons, mainly, hold jobs.
The program is efficient and offers good opportunities to post-graduates and young researchers from all over the world to carry out their educational circuit enhancing thus international advancement and experimentation.
