ICT: Tunisia is ranked 1st in Africa
On Thursday March 25th, the World Economic Forum (WEF) released the results of its ninth annual Global Information Technology Report and Ranks Tunisia First in Africa and 39th in the world.
The Report is the result of a long-standing collaboration between the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Network and INSEAD, dating back to 2002.
The Global IT Report measures 133 economies from both the developed and developing worlds and to which extend leverage of ICT advances for increased growth and development through the framework of the Networked Readiness Index (NRI*) on the three main criterias: the adequate political and economic environment for the development of new technologies, the rate of use of new ICT and the level of technological development.
Mrs. Lamia Chaffai, the Tunisian Secretary of State in charge of Computing, Internet and Free software, took part in the meeting held March from 22 to 23 in New York by the WEF. She also discussed with WEF officials the possibility of organizing in Tunisia a workshop to present the 9th Global Information Technology Report 2009-2010.
NRI*:
The Networked Readiness Index examines how prepared countries are to use ICT effectively on three dimensions:
- The general business, regulatory and infrastructure environment for ICT
- The readiness of the three key stakeholder groups in a society – individuals, businesses and governments – to use and benefit from ICT
- The actual usage of the latest information and communication technologies available
